Internet Distribution
One form of getting your film or video out to the public is using the internet. Many websites have been dedicated to the sole purpose of streaming audio and video content. (Streaming is the ability to view video and audio across the internet and having it play as it downloads to your computer)
Some sites, like ours, allow you to send them the videotape and they will do the compression. (Compression is the method used to turn large files in this case mov. files or avi. and making them a smaller file size) This way you don't have to worry about the certain standards specific to their sites format.
Internet distribution is a great method of having your film seen by a large audience all over the world. The more people that view your film the greater the chances that your film and you will be discovered. Internet distribution also allows the filmmaker a great portion of audience feed back via E-mail, posting boards and reviews. It also gives the director a chance to interact with the audience using the same methods described above. Another perk to internet distribution is that it also gives the director an accurate count of the number of viewers to your film or video.
The one major down-side to streaming your video is that it still takes certain viewers awhile to download your film depending on their bandwidth. ( Bandwidth is the term to describe the connection speed to the internet. Larger bandwidth would entail faster connection speeds.) But with the changing technologies larger bandwidth seems to be on the horizon of every household.
