March Screening

It was a dreary night but die hard fans and newcomers alike braved the elements to witness artistic expression at this month’s Screen-2-Stream. The event was held on Monday, March 31st at Frankie J’s Methadome Theater at 8:00pm. The line up was full to brimming with comedic and experimental pieces. Though the rain was falling outside, the spirits were high inside.

Our first place winner this was titled The Silencer and comes to us from Willy Laszlo. The piece takes place in a time when no one is safe from a librarian’s wrath. I’m sure I speak for the entire crowd when I say that I will never, NEVER keep a library book past it’s due date ever again. The short comedy featured Tim Kazurinsky whom I’m sure you all remember from his famous role in both Police Academy 3 and 4. To quote our wonderful host Angie Farruggia, “ That’s the caliber films we have here people!”.

The second place winner this month is a favorite here at Screen-2-Stream, Dan LaCloche. This very short short entitled Trees, forces the audience to examine the all-consuming power that money has over society. This work really attempts to make the audience look deep into themselves to discover what really drives their lives. Also, for anyone concerned, Dan has assured us that no trees were harmed during the making of this film.

Finally in third place we had a great experimental piece from Ken Leroy entitled Continuum. This montage of images attempts to bring to light the life of a struggling artist. The effects are fascinating as Ken visually depicts two artists being judged by none other but themselves. I know I for one can’t wait to see the full-length film!

Aside from great films and good company, some of our more quick thinking audience members walked away with some goodies. This month the prize for those able to answer Angie’s challenging trivia questions was some styling Goose Island T-shirts.
For those of you who couldn’t make it to this month’s screening, don’t be sad. We have another one next month on April 28th! The screening will be held at the more than fabulous Frankie J’s Methadome Theater located at 4437 N. Broadway. The event takes place at 8:00pm and is absolutely FREE, FREE, FREE! But that’s not the best part! It’s BYOB!

Also, if you are an artist yourself and would like to submit your work, you can apply online and send your videos to IFV Chicago at 35 East Wacker Drive #1599 Chicago, IL 60605. So for next month grab some friends and head over to Frankie J’s for Screen-2-Stream to show support for Chicago artists. Hope to see you there!
